Corbett Park: Great Place For Nature Lovers

Jim Corbett National Park is among the finest wildlife and nature parks in India. The park has an area of 600 sq km of which 322 sq km forms the core area. It is situated at an altitude of around 1200 m above the sea-level. The best time to visit Corbett National Park of India is between February and May. The park remains closed to the public from 15 June till 15 November. The topography of the ridged valley with Ramganga River running through it is varied. The streams form islands of graceful Sheesham trees while the ridges are thick with sal trees. There is pastureland with tall grasses, as well. It’s in this beautiful habitat that one will find fifty different kinds of mammals, more than 500 species of birds and a minimum of 25 types of reptiles.

There are reclusive Royal Bengal Tigers, leopards, jungle cats and fishing cats in Jim Corbett National Park. These share space with the sloth bear and the Himalayan bear, jackals, Himalayan civets, grey mongoose, otters, porcupines, elephants and various types of deer. The river teems with the Mahaseer, gharials, muggers and cormorants. Most of the water birds are migrants that arrive in the winter such as the wagtail, gull, duck, goose and snipe. These befriend the local darters and cormorants, herons and lapwings.

The Corbett National Park of India offers the visitor not only the chance to see some wonderful wildlife, but also participate in adventure activities besides angling. There are several places of interest in and around the area such as the ancient Tapkeshwar Temple and Dhangari Museum. Leisure Hotels have some excellent accommodation for visitors in this area such as the Corbett Hideaway, Riverview Retreat and the Hideaway River Lodge.
